Combined Degree Programs

M.D./Ph.D. Admissions Process

For instructions on admission to the M.D./Ph.D. program, visit our M.D./Ph.D. Admissions page. For questions regarding the program, please contact program director Dr. Barbara Kream.

M.D./M.P.H.

Candidates must meet the admission requirements of both the UConn Medical School and the Graduate Program in Public Health. The M.P.H. program seeks students with a strong academic record, commitment to the health of the community, relevant background and/or experience, and career goals relevant to public health. Those with experience and knowledge of the U.S. public health system are preferred. Application to the M.P.H. program is streamlined for M.D./M.P.H. students. To initiate an application, submit a personal letter of application that addresses the admissions criteria above and include a copy of your letter of acceptance to the School of Medicine. Applications are reviewed for admission to the fall semester. The deadline for application is February 1 (international applications are due by January 1), and on a rolling basis after those dates if there are available slots. Under certain conditions, medical students can also be considered for spring admission. To request more information on this and other specialty programs, contact the M.P.H. office at mph@nso.uchc.edu.

D.M.D./Ph.D.

Admissions Process

Our process requires that the applicant be accepted sequentially by the School of Dental Medicine Admissions Committee for entry into the pre-doctoral D.M.D. program, the Graduate School and, then, the Dental Scientist Training Program Advisory Committee. Each member of the Advisory Committee has the opportunity to screen the completed applications and the committee collectively determines who shall be interviewed. Those invited are interviewed by members of the Advisory Committee generally at the time they are interviewed by the School of Dental Medicine Admissions Committee. The Committee then meets to discuss the evaluations and by majority vote of a quorum (2/3 of membership present) determines who shall be accepted and appointed to the Dental Scientist Training Program, if there are multiple candidates for the Dental Scientist Training Program positions. For more information, contact Dr. Alan Lurie.

Clinical Specialty/Ph.D.

Applicants to the combined clinical specialty/training program should contact the director of the desired clinical program as early as possible while in dental school. Acceptances are made by November of the year prior to appointment. For further details on eligibility, mechanisms of award, application procedures, and review criteria, interested individuals may contact Dr. William Upholt.

Ph.D. in Public Health

Application for the Ph.D. program in Public Health is handled through the Storrs campus. For information on admissions, visit the Center for Public Health and Health Policy Ph.D. in Public Health Admissions page.
