Areas of Interest
I am interested in cell signaling events that regulate oocyte
maturation and fertilization. Recently, we have been using
cultured mouse ovarian follicles to study the maintenance of
meiotic arrest, as well as how luteinizing hormone (LH)
overcomes this arrest to signal the oocyte to mature into a
fertilized egg. The maintenance of meiotic arrest involves the
G-protein coupled receptor, GPR3, that stimulates a Gs
G-protein. Gs activation results in an increase in oocyte cAMP,
which leads to meiotic arrest. We are examining Gs and GPR3
activity using fluorescently labeled proteins, dominant negative
approaches, RNAi, and knockout mice.
