Graduate Student Research Day

What Is Graduate Student Research Day?

Once a year, the Graduate Student Organization (GSO) holds an event on the UConn Health Center campus called Graduate Student Research Day (GSRD). GSRD is a forum for the students in the graduate school to present their research (from lab rotation or thesis projects) orally or through poster presentations.

At the end of the day, there is a keynote address by an invited speaker.

Our guest speaker for 2009 will be Dr. Freda Miller, senior scientist in the Department of Developmental Biology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and professor at the University of Toronto.

This year, GSRD will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2009.

At this time, the GSO is asking for abstract submissions for posters for this event. The poster session will be held on Thursday morning, June 25, between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. in the Academic Lobby. Beyond being a venue to present your research, there will also be a poster contest with a cash prize for those posters which best fit the following criteria:

  • clarity and conciseness
  • integrity of methodology and support of aim(s)
  • importance and relevance
  • organization and aesthetics

Abstracts are due Friday, June 13. (Any abstract submitted after the announced date will not be included in the event’s booklet nor given wall space to be posted)

Abstract formatting rules:

  • Title of the poster: centered and all caps – except for scientific abbreviations.
  • Authors of the poster: full first and last names, centered, with presenting author(s) underlined.
  • Your poster abstract: text should be justified.
  • Format: single-spaced, Arial font, size 12; the ENTIRE document (title, authors, text and references) is not to exceed 2,500 characters, including spaces.
  • Save your abstract as a Word document, naming it: (your last name) Abstract (for example: “Smith Abstract”).
  • View a sample abstract.

Once completed, attach your Word document to an email and send to GSO@student.uchc.edu by Friday, June 13.

In the body of your email, alert us as to whether or not you want to participate in the poster contest (if you do not state this in the email body, you will not be included in the contest).

Good luck writing and see you on the 25th!
